SAN DIEGO — El Centro resident Jovane Camacho qualified for the Hershey's Pacific Southwest youth track and field meet with wins at a qualifying meet here last weekend.

Camacho won the 1,600 meters in 5 minutes, 31 seconds and first in the 800 in 2:19 in the 1989 division to qualify for the regional.

Competing in the 1992 division, Joseph Lopez of El Centro also took two firsts — in the long jump with a leap of 6 feet and the softball throw with a toss of 102 feet.

Brawley's Stephen Dominguez (1988) won the softball throw with a toss of 207 feet.

Wrestling

Imperial junior wrestler Raymond Elizalde qualified for the Junior Wrestling Western Regionals by taking second place at the state championships earlier this month.

The 13-year-old finished 5-1 in the 85-pound schoolboy division, losing 17-6 in the championship.

Despite placing second, Elizalde still qualified to represent California in the regionals in Butte, Mont., on June 17-22.

Elizalde, who finished with a 34-3 record in the San Diego/Imperial Kids Wrestling Association, is raising funds for the trip to regionals. Those wishing to submit funds can contact Imperial Junior Wrestling coach Mike Morales at 355-8618.
