Voice: More could have been told about Armed Forces Day story, Cub Scout says

May 26, 2002

I'm writing in response to May 21's Imperial Valley Press. On page B4, "Youth," I read an article called "a home for Old Glory." In this article it only mentions the Girl Scouts of Troop 7072. There were a lot of other people there. For example, there was Maria Garcia, Republican for Congress 51st District, veterans of all wars from Imperial Valley, a group of Boy Scouts from Troop 4025, Cub Scout Troop 4040, the Brownies and the Imperial Valley Sheriff's Office and their reserve officers. The veterans and scouts waited in patience, all of them sweating in the hot sunlight. I was a Cub Scout at that flag ceremony, so I know what it was like there.

The director, Ken Burkey, put a lot of time and money into this project and he wasn't mentioned in the newspaper article, either. This was an insult to everyone there.

There were many pictures taken that day, and I know you don't have very much room in your newspaper, but more than two pictures could be added to show everyone who was there and participated in the "Armed Forces Day" flag ceremony.
