CALEXICO — Police here arrested a 63-year-old Holtville man after he pinned another man between two cars while driving under the influence.

Calexico police Lt. Jim Neujahr said police were called to a traffic accident at 9:29 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of Tony's Market at the corner of Fifth Street and Encinas Avenue.

When police arrived they were told by a witness that Teofilo Camacho Angulo had T-boned another vehicle with his pickup, pinning a man between the two vehicles.

Neujahr said apparently what happened was Angulo had went into the market to purchase beer. When he was leaving, he was backing up and pinned a 26-year-old Calexico man against another truck.

Police gave Angulo a sobriety test in the parking lot and he was then taken to the police station. A blood test was taken and Angulo was arrested for felony drunken driving. Information on his bail amount was not available this morning.

The victim was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

In an unrelated incident, Jose Luis Muñiz Gutierrez, 40, was arrested Monday at 2 a.m. in the 0 to 99 block of East Sixth Street in Calexico for attempted car burglary. Police were called to the block in reference to a car burglary in progress.

When police arrived they saw Muñiz trying to force open a window. They questioned Gutierrez, who said the owner gave him permission to enter the vehicle.

The owner was contacted and said he did not give Gutierrez permission and didn't even know him. He was taken to the county jail. Information on his bail amount was not available this morning.
