Chamber orchestra gets gold rating

The Southwest High School chamber orchestra under the direction of Carolyn Sechrist received a gold rating and the most outstanding instrumental ensemble award at the Heritage Music Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The orchestra also earned the adjudicators' award for having an average score above 92 points of 100 possible.

The string orchestra was rated on tone, intonation, technique, balance and interpretation. Featured soloists included Myung Jin Kim and Deyns Serrato, violinists; John Bonano, violist; and Breezy Boniface, cellist. Music performed at the festival was Scarlatti's "Concerto Grosso No. 3" and Holst's "St. Paul's Suite. The students enjoyed a tour of the Seattle/Vancouver area as well.
