Two injured in accident on Highway 86

SALTON CITY — Two people suffered major injuries in a vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon on Highway 86 near here.

The accident occurred at 3:53 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 86 just north of Navy Base Road, according to a press release from the California Highway Patrol.

The press release states a sport-utility vehicle driven by Roy Benmoshe, 21, of Yuma, was parked along the asphalt highway shoulder.

A pickup driven by S. Cervantes, 25, of Bermuda Dunes struck the back of Benmoshe's vehicle.

The press release states Benmoshe's vehicle overturned several times as it was pushed forward. The vehicle came to rest on its roof. He suffered moderate injuries.


Cervantes' vehicle also overturned and trapped Cervantes and Veronica Diaz, 28, of Indio underneath it. Both suffered major injuries.

The press release states Diaz' and Cervantes' legs were stuck under the dashboard of the pickup. Both suffered major injuries in the accident, but no information was available on the hospital to which they were transported. Another passenger in Cervantes' vehicle, Beatriz Rucoba, 20, of Coachella, suffered only minor injuries in the accident.

Benmoshe suffered moderate injuries.

The press release states Rucoba was arrested but it does not give a reason for the arrest. Information on the arrest was not available this morning.
