The Imperial County Sheriff's Office will be conducting a public hearing to take comments on a California State Off-Highway Vehicle Enforcement grant for which it is applying.
County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Sharon Housouer said the grant the department is seeking is for $775,000.
She said the money will be used to purchase off-road vehicles to patrol the sand dunes.
"It helps the off-road law enforcement coalition. The holiday weekends and off-holiday weekends are quite busy," she said. "It helps us out through the season."
About $500,000 would be used for law enforcement hours and $275,000 would be used for equipment.
The public hearing, Housouer said, will be to make comments or express concerns about the grant.
The hearing will start at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the county Board of Supervisors' chambers in El Centro.
