>>50 years ago — Leslie Londo, president of the Imperial County Employees Association, said members of the association will make a written request to the county Board of Supervisors this week for a meeting to discuss instituting a five-day work week.

>>40 years ago — Calipatria High School graduates will begin commencement week activities Sunday with the baccalaureate at 8 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The student body will participate in an awards assembly Wednesday and diplomas will be awarded June 7.

>>30 years ago — Agriform Co. of Imperial Valley was purchased by Valley Nitrogen Producers, Inc., it was announced by Warren Brock, VNP president. Agriform Co. of Imperial Valley, founded by William H. Remsen 1946, president and sole owner, is a locally owned distributor of both fertilizers and agricultural chemicals.

>>20 years ago — Calexico police investigator Gus Araiza single-handedly recovered a stolen vehicle and other property Thursday afternoon after he chased three suspects into Mexico. Araiza said the incident occurred when he spotted three men stripping a vehicle near Highway 98 and Clarke Road.
