>>50 years ago — White Cross Pharmacy in Brawley announced today that it has become a Walgreen's agency, handling the nationally known firm's exclusive line of products. Chester Thompson, co-partner, said such direct agencies generally are found in communities larger than Brawley.

>>40 years ago — Lawrence E. Vredvoe of the University of California, Los Angeles, will speak in Brawley Union High School's commencement exercises. Diplomas will be presented to 155 graduates on the junior college patio.

>>30 years ago — Superior Court Judge John A. McGuire granted three cantaloupe growers an injunction they believe will halt the efforts of the United Farm Workers to effect a general strike in the Yuma area in protest against farm labor legislation newly passed by the state Legislature.

>>20 years ago — The Calexico City Council will consider at 7 tonight a request by Police Chief J. Leonard Speer to turn the Calexico Gun Club into a police training center. A similar proposal was rejected by the City Council last year after some local residents objected.
