BRAWLEY — Imperial County Sheriff's Office deputies are searching for two suspects thought to have burglarized a research facility just south of here this morning.

Sheriff's Sgt. Manuel Avila said at 1:23 a.m. deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the Imperial Valley Conservation Research Center, 4151 Highway 86.

Avila said when deputies arrived they met with an administrator of the facility. The administrator had been contacted by the alarm company that provides security for the center regarding a burglary in progress.

When he arrived the administrator confronted two men who claimed they had run out of gasoline for their vehicle. The two men fled shortly before police arrived and left their vehicle behind.

Avila said deputies searched the area but were unable to find the men. The vehicle was impounded and is being used to help find the identities of the two suspects.

Avila said buildings at the research center had been burglarized and some items were missing.
