Music students gather to play at all-studio recital

The Imperial Valley branch of the Music Teachers' Association of California had its annual all-studio recital recently at the First Christian Church of El Centro.

Each member of the association presented two numbers performed by top students from each studio.

Anna Brinkman presented two sets of duo pianists in Daniel and Ellis Chi and Glenn Lam and Krystal Reardon.

Erica Thornberg represented Nathalie Heckenberg of Holtville.

Students of Ethel Lange, Kaileen Yeong and Christopher Yeong played piano and violin together. Esther Kang of Lange's studio also played the violin.

Lyn Neal's students, Mary Kim, Cara Ko, Kimberly Caesar, Ricardo Herrera, Valarie Smith, Amy Kwon, Nara Shin, Kelly Kim and Kaileen Yeong, played in a violin ensemble. Zulema Ibarra, one of Neal's students, played the piano.


Joan Pinder presented pianist Daniel Padilla.

A string quartet, all students of Carolyn Sechrist and made up of Myung Jin Kim and Esther Kang, violinists; John Bonano, viola; and Breezy Boniface, cello, also played.

The association provides the certificate of merit program and presents music scholarships to music students, as well as helping to standardize the private teachers' curriculum throughout California.
