The Imperial County Sheriff's Office Rural Crime Task Force has joined the California Highway Patrol to form the Imperial Valley TASC Force — Traffic, Agriculture, Safety and Cargo — and the new task force got busy recently

The TASC Force inspected 123 vehicles, took five out of service and issued 18 citations during the Memorial Day weekend. The five vehicles were taken out of service because they had safety violations.

The aim is to enforce commercial vehicle regulations and investigate incidents involving crimes associated with traffic, agriculture, commercial vehicle safety and cargo.

A press release from the Sheriff's Office states, "This TASC Force sent an important message to those criminals that agriculture-related crimes, commercial vehicle violations and cargo thefts will not be allowed to pass freely in or out of Imperial Valley."

Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Carlos Davila said, "It was something going on that needed to be taken care of."
