Thanks: Many students are excelling at CUHS thanks to fine educators

June 05, 2002

Our son will soon be graduating from Central Union High School and his time at CUHS has been productive. In August he will be starting school at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. He was accepted at several prominent universities, including UCLA, USC, Washington University in St. Louis and SMU in Dallas.

We are comfortable that Kyle has been prepared to succeed at this highly competitive university. In recent years we have read and heard a lot about CUHS's API, SAT 9 and Golden State scores. Certainly there is room for improvement and I know the staff is working hard to make sure all the students have an opportunity to learn. However, it is time to acknowledge them for that segment of the student body that has excelled. It has been helpful to have a school board that is less concerned with personal agendas and more concerned with the welfare of the students.

I would like to acknowledge Emma Jones and her staff for a fine job on teaching so many of our young people. Anyone attending the awards ceremony May 29 would know that CUHS has a large number of students who have excelled academically and appear to be prepared to compete at major universities.

I generally do not name names because of the fear of leaving someone out. However, CUHS and the community can be proud of their fine teachers such as Chuck Tally, Ron Nicholson, John Briggs, John Lehton, Rene Baker, Mr. Agundez, Mrs. Lira, Mr. Kelso and Mr. Bowen from Southwest and counselors like Mrs. Ortega and Mrs. Sanchez, to name a few.

Congratulations on a job well done. We'll see you again in 2004.
