Seniors — don't give up. There is help out there. We are faced with a $584 bill regarding a brain scan that I, (Lila) had done. Then we got a notice from Medicare saying that they were not going to pay for it.
A friend of mine told us to go to the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program and they would help us. We did, and the lady in charge, Colleen Ludwig, called Medicare while we were there in her office and found that they had changed their minds, had paid a portion of the bill, written off part of it, and that we would be charged with a very small amount. She was more than kind to us, and there was no charge for our visit.
Then we became concerned because our dishes are made of pottery and could contain lead. So my husband, Jim, went to the Public Health Services Department with one of our dishes. The ladies there checked it for lead and told him that there is no lead in them. They also gave us a tester so we could test some of our other dishes.
