U-13 Dynamos go to the Rose Bowl on Saturday

PASADENA — The U-13 Dynamo El Centro soccer team will participate in the Corinthians Classic soccer tournament's "Parade of Champions" on Saturday at the Rose Bowl here.

The Imperial Valley squad and its coaches as well as Corinthians Classic champions — the tourney was four weeks ago — from other age brackets will be introduced to those assembled to see the Major League Soccer match between the L.A. Galaxy and the Chicago Fire.

"It's thrilling for the kids to get onto the Rose Bowl field," said Dynamo coach Jim Graham. "It's a historical venue."


NATIONAL CITY — Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics swimmer Kristi Emanuel of Calipatria took first in the girls 11-12 B 200-meter individual medley in the three-day South Bay Aquatics A/B/C swim meet here recently.


The 12-year-old Emanuel swam the 200 medley in 3:01.02, also placing second in the B 100-meter backstroke (1:29.25) and sixth in the B 100 freestyle (1:16.20) and 10th in the A 50 butterfly (36.74).

Desert Aquatics' Kacie Rodvil, 10, of Seeley finished second in the girls 9-10 B 200 butterfly (2:59.42), fourth in the B 200 individual medley (3:38.03), fifth in the B 100 freestyle (1:26.13), sixth in the A 100 butterfly (1:37.21) and eighth in the A 50 butterfly (43.07).

Other I.V. Desert Aquatics swimmers to place were:

· 9-10 girls: Ali Hannon, 9, of Brawley, ninth in the A 50 breaststroke (50.56); Elvia Vasquez, 10, of Calexico, fourth in the B 100 butterfly (1:44.77) and 10th in the B 50 freestyle (40.36)

· 11-12 girls: Julia Hannon, 11, of Brawley, fifth in the A 50 breaststroke (42.27)

· 13-14 girls: Julianna Caro, 13, of El Centro, seventh in the C 100 backstroke (1:34.89)

· 15 & over women: Jennifer Cardenas, 16, of Brawley, seventh in the A 100 butterfly (1:16.08) and eighth in the A 200 individual medley (2:52.09); Natalia Cardenas, 15, of Brawley, ninth in the A 100 freestyle (1:09.68)
