CALEXICO — Imperial County Coroners Office investigators have released the names of an El Centro couple who died in a fiery traffic accident Wednesday on Highway 98 east of here.

The accident also left a man injured.

Karina Izeth Ravira De Martin, 27, and her husband, Jose De Jesus Martin Martinez Jr., 26, were killed in the accident shortly after 5 p.m. on Highway 98 east of Cole Road.

Reynaldo Arredondo of Lynwood suffered chest trauma in the accident. Arredondo's age was not available.

A California Highway Patrol report states a car driven by Ravira De Martin was traveling east on Highway 98 as a pickup driven by Arredondo was heading west on the highway.

The press release states the car, for unknown reasons, skidded sideways into the westbound lane directly into the path of Arredondo, who was unable to avoid colliding with the car.

Arredondo's vehicle burst into flames after the impact, said Calexico Fire Department officials, but he was not burned. Arredondo was taken to El Centro Regional Medical Center.

Hospital officials said this morning they did not have records on Arredondo, indicating he may have been transferred to another hospital.

Ravira De Martin and Martin Martinez were pronounced dead at the scene. Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol.
