Two El Centro men were arrested on felony warrants issued by the Imperial County Superior Court after a routine check on them was made Friday afternoon.

El Centro police Sgt. Jeff Mason said the two men, Rudy Fabela, 21, and Ernesto Mendoza, 20, were with two other people loading property into a car that was parked in an alley of the 1000 block of Adams Avenue.

Mason said a citizen observing the actions suspected something might have been awry and called the police. Though the call went to the police as a possible burglary in progress, it was not, Mason said.

However, responding officers requested the four individuals identify themselves.

"They did a warrant check and Fabela and Mendoza came back with felony warrants," Mason said.

The warrant for Fabela was for alleged possession of a controlled substance and alleged possession of a switchblade knife. Bail for the former was set at $5,000, and for the latter, at $15,000. The warrant for Mendoza was for alleged possession of a controlled substance, with bail set at $50,000.
