Driving down Euclid Avenue between La Brucherie and Imperial Avenue (which I do almost daily) I am appalled at the number of shopping carts left at the side of the street, some upright, but many on their sides in the dirt or mud. Apparently those shoppers who take the carts off the parking lot at Vons do not consider that they are stealing property, but I do, if they do not return the carts.
Every cart that is stolen represents $100 or more that must be added to the price of merchandise offered at Vons. Even when Vons goes to the expense of periodically collecting its shopping carts, this means higher prices that shoppers must pay.
I am resentful that these cart thieves (who would think twice before shoplifting) are causing increases in the prices at Vons. I have counted in a single day as many as 35 carts abandoned.
