>>50 years ago — Lee Merritt received a three-year perfect attendance pin during the weekly Kiwanis Club meeting Tuesday at the Adobe Hacienda. The award was presented for consecutive attendance of weekly meetings.

>>40 years ago — The Galloping Gossips, the Imperial Valley's all-women mounted drill team, performed its quadrille at the Camp Pendleton Marina Rodeo. The drill team was given a position of honor behind the grand marshal in the parade. The team performed before a crowd of about 100,000 for the two-day show.

>>30 years ago — A resolution urging President Nixon and Mexican President Luis Echeverria Alvarez to discuss methods of controlling pollution originating from Mexicali that affects the Imperial Valley was approved by the Board of Supervisors.

>>20 years ago — Valley grower Danny Danenberg has recently given the Central Valley Medical Foundation a dose of good medicine — an $11,500 donation. The organization raises funds to buy needed medical equipment in the Valley. Danenberg, one of the founders of the CVMF, has been instrumental in raising money to be used by the foundation for some time.
