I.V. accountant to lead S.D. CalCPA

REDWOOD CITY — John W. Kennerson Jr., certified public accountant, has been elected president of the San Diego chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants for the 2002-03 year.

Kennerson succeeds Stephen L. Throop of San Diego.

Previously Kennerson served as the chapter's second vice president, secretary and leader of the Imperial Valley Discussion Group.

The CalCPA San Diego chapter serves more than 2,000 members in San Diego and Imperial counties. It specializes in a broad range of services, from business consulting and personal financial planning to tax and estate planning.

Some of the activities the chapter plans for the coming months include a U.S.-Mexico conference, tax call-ins with local media, an audit boot camp and enhanced student outreach efforts.

As a partner in the firm Swain, Kennerson & Oswalt, Kennerson's services include tax compliance and planning, accounting, business consulting and estate planning. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from San Diego State University.


Kennerson is on the board of the El Centro Kiwanis Club and is a past El Centro city treasurer. He is a member of the El Centro Regional Medical Center Commitment to Care campaign steering committee, the Workforce Investment Board of Imperial County and the El Centro Chamber of Commerce.

Joining Kennerson on the board of the CalCPA San Diego chapter are Jeanne A. Shannon, first vice president of Cutler & Shannon LLP of Solana Beach; Thomas M. Dalton, secretary of the University of San Diego; and John J. Stremlau, treasurer of Stremlau & Co. Accounting of La Mesa.

The California Society of Certified Public Accountants ( is one of the nation's largest accounting organizations and the largest CPA association in California. It serves 27,000 members in public practice, private industry, education and government.
