>>50 years ago — A send-off banquet for 15 Imperial Valley boys going to Sacramento for the American Legion Boy's State will be tonight in El Centro's Las Palmas Cafe, The boys will depart after the banquet to Sacramento by bus.

>>40 years ago — The wide-ranging swimming program sponsored by the Brawley Parks and Recreation Department will feature swim meets with other Valley cities, adult swim instruction classes and junior/senior life-saving classes.

>>30 years ago — A booster in the Valley's economy will come July 1 when the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service makes subsidy payments to growers amounting to $6.8 million. Subsidy payments are to cotton growers and producers of wheat and milo.

>>20 years ago — Ocotillo homeowners are complaining that the McDougal well has left them high and dry again. Fourteen Ocotillo families hooked up to the McDougal well have been without water since Friday night, according to Barbara Farmer, the president of the newly formed group call Save Our Well. The McDougal well is best-known for providing drinking water to Mexicali.
