Railroad repairs force detours for Imperial Avenue traffic

June 19, 2002|STAFF REPORT

The city of El Centro is reminding Imperial Valley residents that Union Pacific Railroad Co. and the state Department of Transportation will begin construction Friday to remove and replace the railroad tracks and repave the railroad crossing on Imperial Avenue in El Centro.

The road will be closed to traffic during construction and there will be detours posted to direct traffic to the adjacent streets to help minimize the impact to the community.

The work is expected to take three to four days to complete. Construction may create inconveniences for businesses, residents and visitors and it also may result in some increases in vehicular traffic in nearby residential neighborhoods, a city press release states.

All southbound truck traffic will be detoured at Aten Road and northbound truck traffic at Evan Hewes. While La Brucherie Road will be available for detoured car traffic, no trucks will be allowed on that street. Trucks should use either Dogwood Road, Forrester or Highway 111.
