Ocotillo residents have opportunity to register for auto theft program

June 20, 2002|STAFF REPORT

OCOTILLO — The county Crime Prevention Unit will be here Friday to sign up residents for combat auto theft program.

Registration for the program is free.

Deputies will meet with people in the Ocotillo Community Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Letrell Cuff, coordinator for the Ocotillo Neighborhood Watch program, said as part of the combat auto theft program, a sticker is placed on a vehicle window.

When that vehicle is driven between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., it can be pulled over by law enforcement as a suspected stolen vehicle.

The combat program is voluntary and crime prevention officials ask that anyone who routinely drives during those hours not place the combat sticker on their vehicle
