Indio woman,19, injured in accident near Salton City

SALTON CITY — A 19-year-old Indio woman suffered head injuries after a single-vehicle roll over near here Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 4:40 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Highway 86 north of Sunrise Drive, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The press release states Leticia Gonzalez was driving a small pickup in the fast lane when she drifted onto the dirt center median and lost control of the vehicle. It rolled several times before coming to rest on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes. Gonzalez, who was wearing her seat belt, was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs by a CHP helicopter, the press release states.

Minutes earlier, Jerry Sterling, 36, of Brawley sustained minor injuries when the small pickup he was driving overturned on Highway 115 west of Blair Road east of Calipatria.

According to a press release from CHP, Sterling drifted onto the north dirt shoulder of the highway and tried to steer back on to the roadway but he lost control and overturned. The accident occurred about 4 p.m.

Sterling was taken to Pioneer's Memorial Hospital after complaining of pain to his head. He suffered a laceration to his left eye. He was wearing his seat belt, the Highway Patrol reported.
