CALEXICO — A resident here was stabbed twice in the stomach by two men trying to rob him Monday night.

Calexico police Lt. Jim Neujahr said the victim, whose identity was not released, was stabbed in the 100 block of Cole Road somewhere behind Denny's Restaurant around 10:45 p.m.

Neujahr said the victim was about to get into this truck to go home when he was approached by a man.

Neujahr said the first suspect asked the victim for a quarter. The victim told him he didn't have any money and proceeded to walk to his truck. At that point the suspect grabbed him from behind and wrestled him to the ground.

The victim got away after he hit the suspect on the head with a cell phone. Another suspect, who had been watching nearby, caught the running victim from behind and stabbed him.

Neujahr said the victim, despite having been stabbed twice in the stomach, refused treatment. He said the victim probably sought medical treatment on his own.

One of the suspects is described as a Hispanic male wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and with a goatee. The second was only described as wearing a black T-shirt.

The suspects fled with the victim's keys, wallet and other personal property.
