41-year-old Calexico man arrested for alleged sexual abuse of girls

CALEXICO — A 41-year-old Calexico man was arrested this morning on several counts of sexual abuse of girls ages 14 and 11.

Arrested was Jesus Lorenzo Gonzalez, who was booked into Imperial County jail on suspicion of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, sex by fear, aggravated sexual assault and lewd acts with a minor. His bail was set at $250,000.

Calexico police released few details about the case as the investigation is still moving forward. They did say Gonzalez knew the girls and that alleged sexual abuse had occurred over a period of time.

Police declined to say how Gonzalez knew the girls so as to protect their identities.

Calexico police Sgt. Gonzalo Gerardo said the case came to light Thursday when the 14-year-old girl told her mother of the alleged sexual abuse.

The mother contacted police at 10 p.m. Thursday and officers moved in to make the arrest at Gonzalez's home in the 800 block of Andrade Avenue.

He was taken into custody at 1 this morning without incident.

Gerardo said the girls were going to be interviewed by Child Protective Services today and they might then be taken to Children's Hospital in San Diego for examinations and further care.

The case remains under investigation.
