CALEXICO — Shorter wait times are expected after an additional SENTRI lane opened this week at the east Port of Entry, a port official said.
The new lane will be open seven days a week, including holidays, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. The lane will accommodate already-existing lanes at the port to allow travelers who are pre-approved for entry into the U.S. to be processed faster at the port.
“The addition of a SENTRI vehicle lane at the Calexico East port along with expanding SENTRI hours of operation at the downtown port will provide shorter wait times for trusted travelers at California’s fourth-busiest port,” Port Director Billy Whitford said in the statement.
“Expediting legitimate traffic at our border crossings goes hand-in-hand with enhanced security at our borders,” Whitford said.
The non-SENTRI lanes will continue to operate under their current schedule of 3 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and from 6 a.m. to midnight Saturday through Sunday, according to a press statement from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Calexico’s downtown port also features a pedestrian SENTRI lane that will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, the statement read.
SENTRI is an acronym for Secured Electronic Network for Traveler’s Rapid Inspection.
