More than $1 million in drugs seized

More than $1 million worth of methamphetamine and cocaine were seized Monday by U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Interstate 8 checkpoint, according to a press statement.
A 21-year-old U.S. citizen whose name was not released was arrested in connection with the drugs when Border Patrol agents found during a cursory search a hidden compartment in a pickup that carried several packages of cocaine and methamphetamine, the release reported.

A motorcyclist suffered what El Centro police said was a complaint of pain Tuesday during a crash that involved a Suzuki Forenza at Ross Avenue and 19th Street, police said.
Paramedics took the motorcyclist to El Centro Regional Medical Center following the 2:36 p.m. collision that left the driver of the sedan with cuts to her nose.
The driver was not taken to the hospital. Details were not immediately available as to how the midday collision unfolded.

HOLTVILLE — A 17-year-old Holtville High School student was cited and released to his parents on a misdemeanor battery charge after he scuffled with another student outside the school campus, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
