An El Centro man with a warrant for two counts of kidnapping and a host of other offenses remained in custody Sunday following his weekend arrest on suspicion of rape, officials said.

Imperial County sheriff’s authorities searched for 22-year-old Charles Desmond Garrido after receiving a 10:30 a.m. call Saturday about allegations that Garrido sexually assaulted a female earlier in the morning, Imperial County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jimmy Duran said.

Repeated attempts to reach sheriff’s authorities Saturday about Garrido’s arrest were unsuccessful, but Duran said Sunday the alleged incident occurred at a location in Seeley at about 2 a.m. but wasn’t reported until later.

Garrido’s arrest took place in Seeley, Duran said.

In addition to the rape count, Garrido was booked into the county jail on suspicion of kidnapping, false imprisonment, child endangerment and making threats, according to records.

Jail records also showed that Garrido’s local warrant lists two counts of spousal abuse, a single count of false imprisonment and one count of vandalism as the other crimes he was sought for.

Bail was set at $200,000, a jail official reported. Garrido’s arrest warrant was issued Sept. 21, the official said.

Duran said the case is still under investigation.
