Centinela Solar project approved

December 27, 2011|By ALEJANDRO DAVILA

After a lengthy public hearing, the conditional-use permit of the 2,600 acre wide Centinela Solar project was unanimously approved by the Board of Supervisors in special meeting Tuesday.

The $600 million project will be located on Highway 98 and Brockman Road, near Mount Signal.

1,600 acres capable of producing 175 megawatts will be constructed in the second quarter of 2012, said Eric Crawford, vice president of the developer LS Power.

300 jobs are expected to be created during construction, Crawford said to the board, while five to seven permanent jobs are expected thereafter.

Once completed, the project will produce an additional 100 megawatts, he said. But such construction schedule is yet to be determined.
