Wind advisory in affect for Imperial County

February 13, 2012|Elizabeth Varin | Staff Writer

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for much of Imperial County this afternoon.

From about 1 p.m. to midnight tonight, high winds are expected in Imperial County, including the Interstate 8 corridor from Mountain Spring Pass east through El Centro to Gordon’s Wells, according to the advisory. Joshua Tree National Park and the eastern portion of Riverside County are also expected to be impacted.

Sustained west winds from 25 to 35 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 45 miles per hour. The winds can make traveling difficult for high profile vehicles like RVs. There’s also the potential for areas of reduced visibilities due to blowing dust or sand.

Extra caution is encouraged.
