Sports Writer CALEXICO ? The Imperial Sea Lions solidly beat the Calexico Dolphins, Holtville Stingrays and Bancali Marlins 357-135-57-38 respectively here in a quad meet at the Calexico High School pool on Thursday. The female Sea Lions took their win over the girls from Calexico, Holtville and Bancali by a score of 236-68-19-7. Imperial's boys held their own, defeating the male Dolphins, Stingrays and Marlins 121-67-38-31 respectively. Leading Imperial's girls were Miho Kobayashi, 6, Katie Ross, 12 and Savannah Armstrong, 18. Ross won three girls 11-12 events, taking first in the 50-yard butterfly (34.00 seconds)

YUMA ? Individual results from Saturday's Imperial Valley Swim League championship meet at Moreno Pool here were released earlier this week. Teams from Brawley, Calexico, El Centro, Holtville, Imperial, Naval Air Facility El Centro, Blythe, Yuma and Bancali and Casino, both of Mexicali each brought their best swimmers to compete in as many of the six events (distance freestyle, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and individual medley)....

CORONADO - Led by Southwest High swimmer Brandon Crabtree, the Imperial Valley Desert Aquatics swim club fared well at the 2012 Junior Olympic Championships here this past weekend. Crabtree won the 100-yard butterfly, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Based on Crabtree's times this summer, he has qualified to attend the Junior Nationals from Aug. 13-17 in Indianapolis. The Junior Nationals features the best 18-and-under swimmers in the nation. Crabtree qualified to swim the 50, 100, and 200 freestyle events, along with the 100 butterfly.

Sports Writer IMPERIAL ? The Imperial Sea Lions soundly defeated the Holtville Stingrays by a score of 342-74 at the city pool here Tuesday. Imperial's girls overcame the female Stingrays 202-13 to remain undefeated this season, while the male Sea Lions grabbed their second victory of the summer by beating Holtville's boys 140-61. Leading the charge for the female Sea Lions were Cassidy Benner, 6, Taylor Haller, 8, Steph Brock, 14, and Erika Valle, 15. Each of the four won three events, with Benner taking the girls 6-and-under 25-yard backstroke (39.58 seconds)

IMPERIAL ? The El Centro Sunsations narrowly defeated the Imperial Sea Lions and Southern Arizona Sand Sharks of Yuma summer recreational swim teams in a tri-meet at the Imperial city pool Thursday. El Centro scored 282 points, while Imperial earned 274 points and Yuma, 169. The Imperial girls outswam El Centro and Yuma 146-132-105, respectively, but the El Centro boys made up the difference by defeating Imperial and Yuma 150-128-64. Taylor Haller, 8, Samantha Ross, 10, and Stephanie Brock, 14, led the way for Imperial, winning two events each.

IMPERIAL ? The Brawley Sunstrokers narrowly defeated the Imperial Sea Lions 227-203 in summer recreational swim action at the city pool here Thursday night. The teams split the meet with Brawley's girls beating the female Sea Lions 121-95 and Imperial's boys edging the male Sunstrokers 108-106. Leading the way for the female Sunstrokers were Jaycie Cruz, Alejandra Panoja and Julia Hannon. Cruz won all three of her events, finishing first in the girls 6 and under 25-yard butterfly (29 seconds and 32 milliseconds)

IVDA swimmers fare well at meet STAFF REPORT The Imperial Valley was represented well by 12 Imperial Valley Desert Aquatic swimmer who recently competed in the Fallbrook Associated Swim Teams' B/C meet. Taking top honors was Alejandra Pantoja, 10, of Brawley, who had two wins and a second-place finish. Pantoja won the girls 9-10 B 50-yard breaststroke in 45.95 seconds and the C 50-yard backstroke (41.83) and finished second in the B 50-yard butterfly (38.43). Deidre Corda, 12, of El Centro took second in the B 100-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 14.81 seconds and fourth in the B 50-yard breaststroke (41.11)

POWAY — Samantha Estes, 12, and Julio Alcantar, 11, of the Imperial Valley Swim Team fared well in the Junior Olympics here Friday through Sunday. Estes finished 20th in the 500-yard freestyle in 6 minutes, 0.63 seconds, 19th in the 200 freestyle (2:15.19), ninth in the 50 freestyle (28.44), 14th in the 50 butterfly (31.22), 18th in the 100 butterfly (1:11.12) and 13th in the 100 freestyle (1:01.70). Alcantar finished 20th in the 100 backstroke (1:16.79).

Sports Writer IMPERIAL ? The Imperial Sea Lions summer recreational swim team ended its second home meet of the season last night with a decisive victory over the Calexico Dolphins and the Bancali Marlins of Mexicali. Imperial ended up with 350 points, Calexico with 183 points and Bancali with 117 points. The boy Dolphins barely beat the Sea Lions and the Marlins 116-113-68, while Imperial's girls won over Calexico and Bancali by an overwhelming score of 237-67-49, respectively.

Sports Writer CERRITOS ? The Southern California Municipal Athletics Federation swim finals concluded Saturday afternoon here at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base. Seven teams from the Imperial Valley Swim League brought their best swimmers to compete in the day-long event against swimmers from all over Southern California. First, competitors were split into divisions according to their ages. The swimmers were then split into A, B, C and D categories according to their performances at the SCMAF swim qualifying meet two weeks ago. Present were the Bancali Marlins from Mexicali, Brawley Sunstrokers, Calexico Dolphins, Casino de Mexicali, El Centro Sunsations, Imperial Sea Lions and Naval Air Facility El Centro Desert Dolphins.
