A 43-year-old Arizona woman was found dead in the Glamis sand dunes Saturday afternoon, according to an e-mail from Deputy Coroner Eric Frazier. Denise Adams from Queen Creek, Arizona, was found in her travel trailer by relatives after she had been in the shower for a long period of time, he wrote. There were no visible signs of injuries, and an autopsy is set for Tuesday.

GLAMIS -- A Bay area man suffered fatal injuries Monday when his motorcycle landed on top of him during a freak accident while riding up Oldsmobile Hill, an official said today. Michael Neher, a 47-year-old Benicia resident, died of his injuries during the 4 p.m. incident that occurred when his motorcycle went over backwards, said Imperial County Supervising Coroner Charles Lucas. Campers in the area said it was Neher's first time in the recreational area and that he camped alone, Lucas said.

A man from Germany is dead after his off-highway vehicle rolled over Friday afternoon near Gecko Road near Glamis, according to a California Highway Patrol press release. Edgar Norbert Hecht, 49, of Veitshoechheim, Germany, was riding his 2006 Kawasaki KFX 400 four-wheeler south of Highway 78, according to the press release. He was driving about 40 miles per hour a little after 5 p.m., but lost control of his vehicle and overturned several times. He sustained blunt-force trauma to his head and torso, according to the press release.

GLAMIS --- A man was flown out to a Phoenix-area hospital after suffering burns to his face, arms and hands over the weekend during an accident at the Wash 3 area, according to authorities. The man, whose name was not immediately available, was flown out to Maricopa County Burn Center late Saturday for injuries he sustained during an apparent campfire accident, an official said. The man caught on fire when he was pouring gasoline on a campfire, said Brawley Fire Lt. Eloy Martinez.

GLAMIS --- A juvenile was fatally struck by a sand rail today in Glamis, according to a log entry at the Imperial County Sheriff's Office. The entry reported that authorities received an 11:27 a.m. report about the incident that occurred near Wash 3 but by 12:04 p.m. the juvenile died. No other information about the juvenile was provided.

GLAMIS --- Coroner's officials identified today the 27-year-old Arizona man who got run over by a recreational vehicle over the weekend. Michael Chiddister, of Sunrise, Ariz., died of his injuries during the 5:27 p.m. incident Saturday at Gecko Road, said Imperial County Deputy Coroner Rodolfo Barron. The fatal incident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barron said.

A truck carrying manure tipped over this morning, spilling its contents over the roadway at Highway 78 near Glamis. The roadway was closed as it had to be cleaned up this morning because of the overturned truck, said California Highway Patrol Officer Pablo Torrez. Nobody was hurt in the accident that happened about 6:50 a.m. today at the Orita curve where Highway 78 branches out to Glamis.

GLAMIS — A Sun City man died Friday from injuries sustained while riding a quad here, the California Highway Patrol reported. The man’s name was unknown as of press time Friday. While riding a quad the man went off of a sharp edge and flipped his quad in an open desert area, said Highway Patrol Officer Pablo Torrez. It is unknown what time the incident occurred, but the Highway Patrol received the call at 2:50 p.m. Friday. The man died at the scene from his injuries.

BRAWLEY - Some local residents may plan on just staying at home with family this New Year's weekend but most of those who live outside of the Imperial Valley will be doing something a little different to ring in 2012 - in Glamis. Matt Redd, of Valencia, was placing ice and beer in the bed of his pickup Friday during a stop at the Vons grocery store here and said he frequently comes to the dunes for recreation. Redd has seen people from as far north as Sacramento come to Glamis for fun. “I'm just going to Glamis and have a good time,” Redd said.

GLAMIS --- A 65-year-old Anaheim resident died at the scene of a crash Sunday at the Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Area after plunging 150 feet from a sand dune, a press statement read today. The man whose name has not been released pending notification of relatives suffered a blunt force trauma to the head and abdomen when he was ejected from a 2008 Yamaha Raptor 700 when it landed on its front wheels, said California Highway Patrol Officer Temo Beltran. The man was riding his off-road vehicle at about 35 mph in a southeasterly direction when he was cresting a so-called razor-back dune and failed to turn from it, Beltran said.

There is no denying the appeal and mystique of the local sand dunes. For a few months out of the year thousands of visitors and no doubt characters flock to the sandy area in search of a good time. One man, by the name of Rick Harrison, was so intrigued by the culture of the Glamis dunes; he propositioned a reality show about the area to the producers of his hit television series, “Pawn Stars.” On Monday, Harrison appeared on Fox News and stated the Bureau of Land Management had denied his producers' permission to film a reality show in the area due to budget restraints.

WINTERHAVEN - Two men high on marijuana tried to make it through the Border Patrol checkpoint with guns and ammunition in their trunk, according to Sheriff's Office logs. The two suspects were reportedly under the influence of marijuana and had two assault rifles and 700 ammunition rounds in their car as they went through the Interstate 8 checkpoint Thursday, according to the logs. The California Highway Patrol and Sheriff's Office were called out to assist. Man arrested, bail set at $530,000 NILAND - A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder this week after a woman was reportedly beaten Thursday.

SALTON CITY - A motorcyclist suspected of riding while under the influence was arrested early Sunday at the Highway 86 checkpoint, according to a log entry at the Imperial County Sheriff's Office. The person, whose identity was not given, apparently crashed his motorcycle and walked to the checkpoint where he was arrested at 12:31 a.m., the log entry stated. Lost people found GLAMIS - An untold number of people who were lost were located Sunday at 7:55 a.m. near Glamis, according to a log entry.

GLAMIS --- California Highway Patrol authorities are investigating a fatal incident that occurred today at the Osbourne Overlook. The Highway Patrol's Web site reported that Imperial County Sheriff's authorities received a 12:28 p.m. call of the off-road incident. Highway Patrol Sgt. Wes Boerner said the incident at first appeared to involve a minor injury until it was determined to be a fatality. The incident occurred in between Gecko Road and the Glamis Flats area.

More than 100,000 people found their own flavor of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area to enjoy over President's Day weekend, U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials said. The weekend is considered to be one of the three busiest weekends of the season, drawing about five times what a weekend normally does in season, BLM Park Ranger Michelle Puckett said. Many find Buttercup on the south end of the area to be the most family-friendly and is generally less crowded. James Fuller of Phoenix came there for the weekend with his wife, children, in-laws and several neighbors.

HOLTVILLE - The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal wreck early Sunday that took the life of a 35-year-old Holtville man. The man's name was not released pending notification of relatives. Highway Patrol Officer Pablo Torrez said the driver was heading east on a dirt road south of Evan Hewes Highway when the accident occurred. The driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed west of Anderholt Road, Torrez said. GLAMIS Death reported Imperial County Sheriff's authorities received a 3:48 p.m. call Saturday about man in his 20s who initially appeared to be unconscious near the Highway 78 and Osborne Overlook.
